Matilija Meadow
Sunday, May 24th, 2009I am more impressed by someone who can capture a meadow than by a single flower. This bed of Matilija poppies delivered many portraits that have appeared in my stream but none of them caught the excitement I felt rounding the bend and seeing the mass holding their petals to the sky. Nor was the subtle touch of the wind apparent. This video fills these gaps.
This variety of poppy commonly appears in streambeds and on dry hillsides late in spring and into the middle of the summer. It could well be our second state flower. No larger wild blossom is found in the state.
